Arrest made in May shooting in Courthouse

Arlington County police say an 18-year-old Alexandria man shot and critically wounded another man in Courthouse last month.
ACPD announced the arrest of A-Jay Jones today, saying he pulled the trigger outside of a Courthouse hotel early on the morning of May 19. Police previously said the shooting happened as a result of a dispute between two groups of people.
“The investigation into the additional suspects involved in the shooting is ongoing,” police noted.

Pride Month will soon be coming to a close but a number of local events are still on the calendar, highlighted by the third-annual Arlington Pride Festival.
The Arlington Pride Drag Pageant will take place tonight (Friday), allowing local entertainers to compete for only the second-ever crown. Held at Clarendon Ballroom, doors will open at 7 p.m. The pageant is scheduled to wrap around 10 p.m., with a rooftop after party to follow.

Amazon’s HQ2 Community Day scheduled for this weekend has been postponed.
Originally slated to run from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, parts of the event would fall in the window of an Excessive Heat Watch.

A suspect is in custody after allegedly striking several police cruisers with a stolen vehicle.

The watch takes effect Saturday afternoon. Forecasters say that heat index values of up to 110 are possible, raising the risk of heat related illnesses for those spending time outside.

A driver crashed into parked vehicles and flipped his car this morning on a quiet residential street in Bluemont.
